Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Spain Mortgage Calculator (the "Platform"), operated by Awesome Content AS, uses cookies and similar technologies such as HTML local storage. It is issued in accordance with the EU GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC as amended) and, in Spain, Article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 (LSSI-CE) and the AEPD's guidance on cookies. Read it together with our Privacy notice and Terms of Use.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. Similar technologies — such as localStorage and sessionStorage — store data directly in your browser. We use "cookies" throughout this policy to refer to all such technologies.
2. Your choices & consent
When you first visit the Platform, a consent banner asks you to Accept all, Reject all or Customise non-essential categories. No non-essential cookie is set before you give consent, and "Reject all" is offered with equal prominence to "Accept all".
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by opening (also linked in the site footer). Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
Strictly necessary storage is set on the basis of Art. 22.2 LSSI (technical storage strictly necessary to provide the service you have requested) and does not require consent. Non-essential categories rely on your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
3. Categories of cookies we use
3.1 Strictly necessary
Required for the Platform to function. Cannot be switched off.
- smc_cookie_consent_v1 — localStorage. Records your consent choice and preferences. First-party. Retention: until you clear browser storage.
- Readiness / calculator state — localStorage entries used to save your progress in the mortgage readiness check and calculator inputs so you can resume. First-party. Retention: until you clear browser storage or reset the check.
- Session cookies from the hosting platform — used for load balancing and security. Retention: session.
3.2 Functional (consent required)
Remembers preferences such as language, region and last calculator inputs so the experience feels consistent across visits. First-party. Retention: up to 12 months.
3.3 Analytics (consent required)
Aggregated, pseudonymised usage data (pages viewed, drop-off points in the readiness flow) to help us improve the Platform. IP addresses are truncated or replaced with a salted hash before storage. Retention: up to 14 months.
3.4 Marketing & referral measurement (consent required)
When you click through to a third-party broker, a minimal identifier and a salted SHA-256 hash of your IP address may be recorded server-side so we can measure outbound clicks and account for referral compensation. This does not share your readiness answers with the broker. Retention: up to 24 months.
4. We do not use advertising cookies
The Platform does not participate in third-party advertising networks and does not set cookies for behavioural advertising, retargeting or cross-site ad tracking.
5. Third-party cookies
Some functionality may be provided by third parties (for example analytics or hosting). These providers act as processors under Art. 28 GDPR and may set their own technical cookies subject to their own policies. We keep third-party cookies to the minimum needed to operate the Platform. Where a third party is located outside the EEA, transfers are protected by an adequacy decision or Standard Contractual Clauses — see the Privacy notice.
6. How long cookies last
- Session cookies — deleted automatically when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies and local storage — remain until they expire or until you clear them. Retention periods for each category are shown above.
7. Managing cookies in your browser
In addition to our Cookie settings, most browsers let you refuse cookies, delete existing cookies, or be notified when a cookie is set. Clearing browser storage will also remove your saved readiness progress and reset your consent choice.
8. Your rights
You have the rights described in our Privacy notice, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection and the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish supervisory authority (AEPD, www.aepd.es) or the authority of your EU/EEA country of residence.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to the Platform or legal requirements. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where required, by re-requesting your consent.
10. Contact
Questions about cookies or privacy can be sent via the contact form — please select the "Privacy / data protection" subject.
